Meyer Clinic: feel better, look better

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

CFS is characterised by extreme fatigue that cannot be explained by any underlying medical condition.

Medical Tests for CFS

This condition is also known as systemic exertion intolerance disease (SEID) or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is unknown, although there are many theories — ranging from viral infections to psychological stress. Some experts believe chronic fatigue syndrome might be triggered by a combination of factors. The fatigue may worsen with physical or mental activity, but doesn’t improve with rest.

Signs & Symptoms

A person suffering with CFS may display some of the following systems: loss of memory or concentration; unexplained muscle or joint pain; headaches; a sore throat; un-refreshing sleep and/or extreme exhaustion lasting more than 24 hours after physical or mental exertion.

Treatments for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

There’s no single test to confirm a diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome. A person may need a variety of medical tests to rule out other health problems that have similar symptoms. Treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome focuses on symptom relief which can be discussed with your Meyer Clinic GP.

IV Therapy

IV Therapy can be used as a way to improve the symptoms of chronic fatigue by delivering a bespoke blend of nutrients and electrolytes directly into the bloodstream. It can in some cases ease arthritic pain and improve the overall quality of life of those suffering with arthritis. IV Therapy delivers nutrients to enhance healing and reduce pain and decrease inflammation.

Nutritional Therapy

If you have CFS and are unsure of what and when you should be eating, you may benefit from the additional help and support from a qualified nutrition professional who is experienced in the management of CFS and ME. Diet and lifestyle changes can help to manage symptoms. Meyer Clinic’s Nutritional Therapist Dominique Ludwig can work with you to develop strategies and create a personalised eating plan.

Health Check

CFS involves a variety of different symptoms which can make it difficult to diagnose. One of the most common symptoms is extreme tiredness and brain fog.  A personalised health check up with Dr Annelize Meyer will give you the time and attention for you to talk through the condition; it is an opportunity to work together on a plan to stabilise and improve the condition.
