Coeliac Disease

Many people are unaware they are suffering with this long-term autoimmune disorder.

Coeliac Disease | Meyer Clinic

Living with Coeliac

Coeliac disease is a common digestive condition where the small intestine becomes inflamed and unable to absorb nutrients. It can cause a range of symptoms, including diarrhoea, abdominal pain and bloating. Coeliac disease is caused by an adverse reaction to gluten, a dietary protein found in three types of cereal: wheat.

At Meyer Clinic, we offer a range of services to work with Coeliac sufferers including our team Cyrex™ testing. This is especially good for patients who are still struggling with their health despite following a strict gluten-free diet.

Cyrex™

Cyrex™ testing can look at food sensitivity and cross-reactivity to gluten. This can help to pick up sensitivity to other common foods such as dairy or eggs as well as common gluten substitutes such as rice or buckwheat, which may still be causing gastrointestinal symptoms or preventing correct healing of the villi.

Our appointments on Living with Coeliac condition, with our Nutritional Therapist Dominique Ludwig, can also help you to live a normal life and teach you how to navigate your way through your gluten-free diet.

Nutritional Therapy

The only way to control coeliac is through diet. People living with coeliac need to eliminate gluten from the foods they eat. This can be difficult initially, but the improvement in the health condition is worth the effort. It’s always best to work with an expert such as our celebrity-endorsed Nutritional Therapist Dominique Ludwig when making changes to a diet to ensure you are getting the right nutrients.

Cyrex™ Testing

Up to 50% of people with coeliac condition are also intolerant to dairy. While this may be lactose intolerance, it could also be to the protein casein. We offer advanced food allergy and intolerance testing, as well as gluten cross reactivity screening from CYREX to check whether any other food may be contributing to your symptoms. Our GPS and Nutritional Therapists also offer nutrient health checks to see if you are deficient in particular vitamins or minerals.

Health Check

There are a number of health issues linked to coeliac disease including malnutrition, gut inflammation, fertility issues and, in woman, menstrual problems. A health check with Dr Annelize Meyer is an opportunity for you to have dedicated one-on-one time with a leading health specialist to discuss your concerns. In partnership, you will work on a treatment plan together to work towards achieving optimal health and wellbeing.
