THREAD VEINS AND
MICRO SCLEROTHERAPY

Thread Veins on the legs are a common and often unsightly problem for patients and Meyer Clinic offers Micro Sclerotherapy the gold standard treatment for them. A very safe, simple, and effective treatment Micro Sclerotherapy is suitable for most patients.

The treatment involves tiny injections of a sclerosing agent being inserted into the thread veins and is fairly pain free. The sclerosing agent damages the blood vessel and the body naturally clears away the broken vessel over a few weeks, so the thread vein effectively disappears. After treatment, pressure bandages are applied or specialised stockings are worn by the patient to help speed up the disintegration process.

If a patient is not suitable to have Micro Sclerotherapy treatments, they may need referring first for the specialist removal of varicose veins which Meyer Clinic can refer them on for and return for Micro Sclerotherapy post-surgery.

Depending on the extent and location of the thread veins, whether they are isolated or in clusters, treatment can include:

  • ELOS Skin Rejuvenation Advanced Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology
  • Advanced Cosmetic Procedures (ACP), an electrolysis treatment particularly effective on isolated veins.
  • Micro Sclerotherapy, a series of fine needling injections into the veins

There is no cure for thread veins. Although our treatments do not prevent the development of new spider veins, the removal of existing veins can dramatically improve the appearance of the affected area, providing a more youthful, healthy look and an even colour-pattern to the skin.
