Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

PCOS is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age.

360º Approach

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine conditions and affects up to 10% or women of reproductive age.

Women with PCOS produce higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones. This hormone imbalance causes them to skip menstrual periods and makes it harder for them to get pregnant.

Symptoms can include clusters of follicles forming around the ovaries, anovulation,  irregular periods, amenorrhea, sub-fertility, as well as increased androgens (male hormones) leading to acne and hirsutism (excess body hair) as well as weight gain and associated insulin resistance and blood sugar imbalance.

A Multi-faceted Approach

This complex condition requires a multi-faceted approach to help support a more normal hormone balance as well as the underlying blood sugar imbalance which can contribute to weight gain and obesity

At Meyer Clinic our 360° approach can support sufferers of PCOS through a range of services from hormone testing, to nutrition support and aesthetic treatments.

Hormone Therapy

Many people are diagnosed with PCOS when they are young and carry it with them in the belief that it is an untreatable condition, as they don’t realise that it is linked to hormonal imbalances. However, PCOS is not a diagnosis for life, and many of the symptoms are reversible with the right treatment plan. Hormone balancing with estrogen and progesterone can in many cases improve many of the symptoms.

DUTCH Testing

At Meyer Clinic, we may recommend Dried Urine Testing for Comprehensive Hormones (DUTCH) for patients suffering with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). This leading-edge test is highly beneficial as it gives a complete picture of how adrenal and reproductive hormone imbalances contribute to this condition. We use the information to shed light on any hormone imbalances to create a bespoke treatment plan.

Skin Peels

In many cases, PCOS can cause acne. This can lead to a person experiencing low self-esteem. Meyer Clinic’s skilled aesthetic therapists work with specially-formulated chemical skin peels to improve the appearance of acne. These peels penetrate deep into the skin’s layers to unclog pores while removing the surface of blackheads and spots. The peels’ contents remain in the pores, working to keep them clean, which is perfect for improving acne-prone skin.
