What Causes Blemishes?
Acne
One of the most common skin complaints is acne. Although closely associated with the teenage years, it is estimated that around 25% of the adult population suffers from the condition to some degree. Sebum is an oily substance that prevents the skin from drying out and this is often the main culprit. Hormonal imbalances, heat and genetic factors can cause excessive amounts of this substance to be produced, causing dead skin cells to clog pores and block hair follicles. This causes whiteheads, blackheads and pimples.
Aggressive acne breakouts can penetrate deep into the skin, damaging the tissue. During the body’s natural healing processes, collagen production is stimulated to provide structure to the skin. Acne scarring occurs as a result of too much, or too little, collagen being produced.
Atrophic Scarring – when collagen levels are not sufficient for healing, the skin does not receive enough support and depressions or pits form.
Keloid Scarring – an excessive amount of collagen results in raised scars that vary in colour, from brown to red.
The Sublative™ laser treatment for blemishes effectively neutralises acne-causing bacteria and reduces the appearance of both types of acne scarring.
Hyperpigmentation And Sunspots
Hyperpigmentation is caused by overactive melanocytes – specialised skin cells that produce the skin-darkening pigment, melanin. Certain medications and changes in hormones can lead to hyperpigmentation, however, sun exposure is the greatest risk factor for developing areas of discolouration. Sunspots are common in adults over 50 and mainly develop on the face, chest and hands, which are less frequently covered up. They develop when melanin clumps together due to UV light accelerating pigment production. Sublative™ facial rejuvenation targets patches of pigmentation, causing them to fade over time. This results in a more even skin tone.
Sublative™ Laser Treatment For Blemishes By ELOS
Using a handheld device, the Sublative™ laser is passed over the target treatment area. Fractionated bi-polar radiofrequency energy penetrates the skin in a series of matrix patterns created by a grid of 64 electrodes. Light and radiofrequency energy convert to heat, causing intentional thermal trauma to the dermis and epidermis. This stimulates the body’s natural healing response, triggering collagen production and the growth of healthy new skin cells.
Old strands of collagen are broken down and replaced, improving the appearance of scarring with repeated treatment. The addition of blue light eliminates the bacteria found in the skin’s oil glands to soothe active acne. Specific laser wavelengths can be used to target areas of pigmentation. Light is absorbed by cells containing excess melanin, breaking down the pigment until uneven patches fade away.
The Sublative™ laser treatment for blemishes is comfortable, quick and doesn’t require any downtime. Improvements are visible days after your first procedure, although a course of 3-6 treatments is recommended for optimal results.
